GRC column capitals
The capital is where a column shows its detail: volutes, acanthus leaves, egg-and-dart. Carving that in stone is slow and costly. Casting it in GRC from a well-made mould repeats the same detail on every column.
We cast capitals for round columns and flat pilasters, to go with our columns or to fit columns built by others.
Where it's used
- Columns and pilasters on facades
- Porticos and entrance porches
- Interior halls and lobbies
- Temple and church interiors
- Replacing damaged capitals
Customisation options
- Order
- Ionic, Corinthian, Doric, Tuscan, Composite, or an Indian bracket capital.
- Form
- Full capitals for round columns, half capitals for pilasters, or corner pieces.
- Detail
- Leaf, volute and moulding detail from a master sculpted for your project, or from an existing pattern.
- Finish
- Natural, stone-textured or painted, with detail picked out in a second colour if you like.
How we make and fix it
A sculpted master is used to make a flexible mould that holds the undercuts. Capitals are cast, cured and cleaned up by hand, then fixed on top of the shaft with dowels and anchors.

GRC capitals: questions
Can you copy an existing capital?
Yes. We can take a mould from an existing capital in good condition, or model a new master from photographs and measurements.
Will a capital fit a column made by someone else?
Yes, if we have the column's top diameter or a template. We size the capital's base to match.
