GRC cornices and mouldings
A cornice gives a building its top edge and its shadow line. In GRC even a deep cornice is a thin hollow shell, as the section drawing shows, so it can project well beyond the wall without heavy corbelling.
We cast cornices, string courses, window heads, parapet bands and plinth mouldings in lengths, with matching corners and returns.
Where it's used
- Roof and parapet cornices
- String courses and floor bands
- Window and door heads
- Plinth mouldings
- Compound wall copings
- Ceiling cornices in large halls

Customisation options
- Profile
- Classical profiles (cyma, ovolo, cavetto, dentils) or a profile drawn by your architect.
- Projection and height
- Set by the design; hollow sections keep deep cornices light.
- Lengths and corners
- Straight lengths plus internal and external corners cast as single pieces, so mitres stay sharp.
- Finish
- Natural, textured or painted to match the facade.
How we make and fix it
We cut a template of the profile, make the mould and cast the cornice as a thin hollow skin. The yellow profile moulds in our casting hall photo are this kind of mould.
On site, corners are set first so the runs line up, lengths are fixed to the wall with brackets and anchors, and the joints are sealed.

GRC cornices: questions
How heavy is a GRC cornice?
Much lighter than a solid concrete or stone cornice of the same size, because it is a thin hollow shell. The weight depends on the profile, and we confirm it in the fixing design.
Can you match an old cornice on our building?
Yes. We take the profile on site, make a template and cast new lengths to match, for repairs or extensions.
